MISSING: Police searching for young boy, possibly taken by non-custodial parents

Police are searching for a 6-year-old Virginia boy who disappeared last Tuesday. The child may be with his parents who, according to police, do not have custody of him.

ABC13 reports Derek Michael Barnett vanished on the morning of June 7 from Hillsville, Virginia, but may be in Indiana with his parents, who are suspected of illegally taking him.

At this time, there is no vehicle description and it’s unclear why the boy’s parents do not have custody of him.

Derek is described as 4-feet tall with light, sandy brown hair and blue eyes. He weighs around 6 pounds and has dental damage that’s clearly noticeable.

Anyone with any information on the boy’s whereabouts should contact the Carroll County Sheriffs Office at 276-728-4146 or the Hillsville Police Department at 276-728-2251.

The story is still developing. Check back with CrimeOnline as additional details become available.
