Hollywood publicist found dead of suicide in her Hamptons home

A successful publicist was found dead of an apparent suicide in her Sag Harbor, New York, home on Sunday night.

The New York Post reports that well-known publicist Jeanine Pepler was found dead at age 50 of an apparent suicide  — a death that has shocked her grieving loved ones.

Pepler has represented big names in publishing like “Sex and the City” author Candace Bushnell and novelist Jay McInerney (“Bright Lights, Big City”), who was also her partner for six years until they parted amicably in 2005.

According to initial reports, Pepler was not known to be experiencing a personal crisis at the time of the apparent suicide, which her partner, artist Steve Miller, does not appear to have expected at all.

“He is just devastated, as are we all,” a friend told the New York Post. “She seemed to be doing great. They had a lot of plans for the future.”

According to the New York Post report, Pepler was found hanged. In the last month, designer Kate Spade and author and TV host Anthony Bourdain were both found dead by the same method. Spade’s death has been officially ruled a suicide, and authorities in France have said that they believe Bourdain also took his own life.

A New York State Police spokesperson told the New York Post that Pepler’s death is an “active, ongoing investigation.”
