Chicago police officer and former Marine kills himself inside squad car: Report

A Chicago police officer fatally shot himself in a police station parking lot.

The Chicago Sun reports that 36-year-old Brandon Krueger shot himself while in a parked squad car outside of the Area South/5th District police station Sunday night. The officer, a veteran of the United States Marines, reportedly used his own service gun.

An autopsy conducted Monday ruled the death a suicide. It is not known where the bullet or bullets entered his body.

A Facebook page belonging to a Brandon Krueger has comments posted within the last day that appear to be referencing the officer’s death. Photos show a man appearing to be in his thirties, sometimes with a young daughter.

Chicago Police Department spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi addressed the officer’s death in a statement.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and his squad,” he said.

Guglielmi told the Chicago Sun that Krueger was assigned to the Bureau of Organized Crime, which deals with gangs, narcotics, and vice.
