Update: Dead baby found aboard plane was left by teen who had miscarriage, police say

As her twin sister stood outside the door, a Brooklyn teen was inside the bathroom aboard an American Airlines airplane having a miscarriage on Monday, police say.

New York Post reports that an 18-year-old teen aboard American Airlines flight 1942 suffered a miscarriage on Monday night, after traveling from South Carolina to New York’s LaGuardia airport. The teen waited until all other passengers had gotten off the plane. Her sister reportedly told the plane crew that it was “an emergency,” then stood outside the bathroom door and waited for her. A flight attendant told police the teen looked ill when she finally emerged from the bathroom.

At around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, a cleaning crew discovered the infant inside the toilet and called police. Earlier that morning, at around 12:30 a.m., the teen checked into the Kings County Hospital.

Although authorities want to interview the teen and her sister, they indicated they feel she indeed had a miscarriage and was not being charged with a crime at this time. The baby was around a foot long and  around three to six months along.

The City Medical Examiner is currently trying to determine the official cause of death.
