Woman shoots estranged husband at Walmart in front of their 3 kids during planned custody exchange: Cops

Authorities in Louisiana say a 31-year-old woman shot and killed her estranged husband this week in front of their children.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at a Walmart in Alexandria. According to Fox News, police responded to the store after receiving a report of shots fired at the location.

Upon arriving, police reported that individuals were already attempting to revive the victim via CPR. Emergency personnel continued working for about 20 minutes, according to local reports, but the man was pronounced dead a short time later.

Kayla Coutee and the victim, whose name was not immediately released by police, were meeting at Walmart in what had been a scheduled custody exchange, according to investigators.

The man has been widely identified on social media as Thomas Coutee Jr., a fact police acknowledged without explicitly confirming those unofficial reports.

“The victim was identified as Couteeā€™s husband, whom she was meeting to exchange custody,” a police statement on Saturday revealed.

They met in the “outer section” of the store’s parking lot, at which point the suspect is accused of opening fire, striking the man in his chest.

“There were three children present at the time of the shooting,” according to police. “None were injured.”

Police confirmed the children were placed in the custody of other relatives after their mother was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Coutee was still behind bars at the local jail as of the latest updates available.

According to the Alexandria Town Talk, bond in the case was set at $500,000.
