Dog found inside trash bag, ‘crawling with infection’ and clinging to life: Officials

Authorities in Virginia are reaching out to the public for answers after a Richmond resident reported finding a badly abused dog wrapped in a trash bag earlier this week.

According to Fox News, the animal is believed to be a 5-year-old Shih Tzu mix breed.

Richmond Animal Care and Control reported that a city shelter received the animal on Thursday.

“This just happened and the words we want to say are not appropriate for social media,” the agency wrote in a Facebook post. “This dog was discovered by a citizen near Rock Church (Southside Richmond, VA) in a garbage bag.”

Officials added that the dog was “crawling with infection” and in need of “immediate medical intervention.”

The post went on to solicit assistance from anyone who might have information about the animal.

“Anyone recognize her?” the officials wrote. “Anyone know anything about people connected to her? We just can’t believe she is still alive.”

After encouraging social media users to spread the image online, the agency asked for donations that would be used for the animal’s care.

“Donations made to our RACC Foundation will help cover the cost of her medical treatment and rehabilitation and can be made at https://www.raccfoundation.org/donate-now,” the post concluded. “Donations can be made via PayPal at Savinglives@raccfoundation.org”

In an interview with Fox News, a spokesperson for the center said the dog was renamed Annabelle and described her as “the sweetest little thing.”
