Police ID suspect in stabbing murder of tech exec killed while jogging in D.C.

Police have identified the suspect accused of murdering 35-year-old Wendy Martinez, who was stabbed while jogging in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday evening.

WTOP reports that D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham has identified the suspect as Anthony Crawford, 23, of the Northwest section of D.C.

Police announced the arrest in an press conference on Thursday morning, and said they did not yet know a motive for the attack.

Authorities reportedly said that Crawford was not cooperative with police following his arrest on Wednesday night. The suspect was apprehended at 14th and Gerard Streets NW.

Crawford reportedly has a criminal history, and authorities are looking into any the possibility of any mental health conditions.

Martinez was the chief of staff at the technology company FiscalNote, Inc., and had become engaged just a week before her murder.

Her friend Kristina Moore read a statement at the news conference.

“Wendy should have been shopping for her wedding dress on Friday,” Moore said.

“There is a hole in our hearts that will never be replaced.”
