90-year-old man beats 67-year-old stepdaughter to death, cops say

Authorities in California say an elderly man killed his elderly stepdaughter during a beating inside of a home in San Jose earlier this month.

According to the New York Post, police responded to the residence and reportedly found and unconscious woman with obvious injuries. Officials pronounced her dead a short time later.

Authorities identified the woman as 67-year-old Karen Navarra and an autopsy showed she died as a result of homicide by blunt force trauma, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Police initially arrived at the location in response to a welfare check, though the caller’s identity and nature of the complaint were unclear from available reports.

After her death was ruled a homicide, investigators focused on the woman’s stepfather, 90-year-old Anthony Aiello, as a suspect.

He was arrested last week and is expected to face charges including murder.

As of the latest updates available, he was being held at Santa Clara County Jail without bond. Reports indicate he is set to appear in court on Thursday.

In an email to the Post, one police officer indicated the investigation remains ongoing.

“Detectives are continuing to look into the motive surrounding this homicide,” Gina Tepoorten wrote.

The San Jose Police Department homicide division is urging anyone with information about the incident to contact detectives Mike Montonye and Brian Meeker by calling 408-277-5283. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 408-947-7867.
