Woman uses her infant as shield when officers try to arrest her for stabbing man: Cops

Authorities in Pennsylvania say a woman used an infant as a human shield against police when officers attempted to arrest her on suspicion of assault with a knife this week.

According to LNP, 24-year-old Shelby Soberano is accused of stabbing an unnamed 32-year-old man during an early-morning incident in Lancaster on Saturday.

The man suffered injuries authorities say did not appear serious and officers were soon on the scene in response.

In addition to being stabbed in the thigh with a paring knife, the man reportedly suffered injuries when the woman scratched and punched him in the face.

He was transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Soberano allegedly held her own 6-month-old child in her hands as she punched the victim.

When police attempted to take the suspect into custody, she allegedly wielded the baby in an attempt to avoid arrest.

She continued to resist arrest, according to police reports, and banged her head against the interior of the police cruiser after she was apprehended.

After a stop at the hospital for an examination, the suspect headed to Lancaster County Prison where she was locked up in lieu of bail set at $50,000.

She is expected to face criminal charges including aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, and simple assault,
