‘Mom’ smothers baby boy THREE times, once while he was at hospital for treatment: Police

An Arizona woman is facing a child abuse charge after she reportedly admitted she smothered her infant baby three times and watched as he turned blue.

ABC15 reports that 21-year-old Emily Morissette is accused of placing her hands over her 2-month-old baby’s nose and mouth until he stopped breathing. Per court documents, the incidents happened three different times between July 23 and July 27.

The first two times, Morissette tried to smother the boy in her home off of 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road. She reportedly admitted she knew the baby stopped breathing because he turned “pale and blue.” Morissette told police she revived him both times and called 911.

On a third occasion, Morissette allegedly smothered the baby again, then pulled out his emergency cord out while he was at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital getting treatment. Hospital staff performed CPR on the infant and revived him.

It’s still unclear why she reportedly injured the child, but Morissette was arrested on October 25 and remains behind bars on $100,000 bond.
