Woman drops baby off at Disney’s Animal Kingdom & walks away: Police

Florida authorities are investigating after a woman dropped her baby off at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista and walked away.

FOX 35 reports that a woman who claimed she was a guest was standing outside of the resort at around 2 a.m. Sunday morning when a woman walked up to her, handed over a baby and walked away. Reedy Creek Fire Rescue reportedly arrived to the scene and took the infant to the Celebration Hospital, where he was given a clean bill of health. Authorities also contacted the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS).

“The agency did receive a case and is actively assessing and working with the family. The child is safe and receiving medical care,” a spokesperson for DFCS said.

The infant’s mother was located on Sunday night. According to police, she’s currently undergoing a mental evaluation.

On Monday morning, spokesman Jeff Williamson of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said that the woman who claimed to be a guest was actually the mother of the infant, according to FOX News.

The state of Florida has the “Safe Haven Law,” in which newborns who are 7-days-old and younger can legally be dropped out at authorized medical services station or fire stations. It’s still unclear how old the baby is.
