Mom charged in death of 5-month-old baby found under plastic bag

A North Carolina mother is facing multiple charges after her 5-month-old baby died while she was purportedly taking a nap.

ABC 13 reports that police responded to the home of Myechia Avery, 30, in Cary on September 18 to find her 5-month-old boy unresponsive. Avery reportedly told emergency responders that she had placed the baby in a car seat next to her bed before she took a nap, and woke to find him no longer in the car seat. She said she found the baby boy underneath a plastic bag.

According to the station’s televised news report, the baby has a 2-year-old brother who was also home at the time of the incident.

First responders reportedly tried to revive the baby, Benjamin Avery, but he was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The mother has been charged with involuntary manslaughter

Myechia Avery is reportedly being held on $500,000 bond and is due in court on November 13.
