Authorities in Florida say a 28-year-old social worker is facing criminal charges of possessing a range of illegal child pornography.

According to WESH, authorities arrested Bartow resident William Smith at his home on Friday and jailed him on suspicion of using social media to obtain child porn.

Local police opened an investigation after receiving a tip that originated from the Tumblr social media site.

That company reportedly shut down an account believed to belong to Smith and containing objectionable material.

Police reports allege the suspect used the site not only to post pornographic images of children as young as 5, but to share the images with other users.

The suspect was reportedly employed by the Youth and Family Alternatives organization in Lakeland at the time of the alleged criminal behavior.

Smith reportedly admitted to using Tumblr — along with other social media sites — to obtain and keep new child porn images.

He is expected to face 15 criminal counts of possessing child pornography.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd expressed dismay over the crimes and the position Smith held at the time he alleged committed them, as reported by ABC Action News.

“He’s a child counselor,” the sheriff said. “That’s right, a child counselor. You know what else he does? He downloads child pornography.”

Judd said the investigation remains ongoing, but as of the latest update there was no evidence that Smith was also involved in child abuse.

“Was he talking to adults, or was he grooming children?” Judd asked. “That’s what’s still under investigation.”
