‘I want her home’: 94-year-old mom forgives daughter accused of brutally attacking her with hammer

Authorities in Georgia says a woman is facing criminal charges after allegedly attacking her elderly mother with a hammer.

According to WSB TV, 56-year-old Sandy Mathis surrendered to police earlier this month following an attack that left 94-year-old Willie D. Monroe seriously injured.

Still convalescing from two broken hands, she spoke to local reporters and said she has forgiven her daughter, noting that she is open to once again living with the suspect in the vicious attack. The mother and daughter have reportedly lived together in the Atlanta home for a couple of decades.

The altercation began when Monroe told her daughter that the younger woman’s boyfriend was no longer welcome.

“She was just, like, out of her mind and she just lit in on me with her fists,” the alleged victim said.

During what she described as a beating at the hands of her daughter, Monroe said she was able to retrieve a hammer.

“I wasn’t trying to throw it and hit her,” the woman said, adding she was trying to “do something” in response to the attack.

Authorities initially deemed the altercation a civil matter but reopened a probe into the complaint and opted to pursue an aggravated assault charge against Mathis.

For the victim, who spent a week recovering in the hospital, she now hopes her whole family will be able to get together for Christmas.

“I love her, just like I’ve always loved her,” she said of her daughter. “I want her home.”
