82-year-old man shoots and kills 50-year-old son during Christmas Day dispute: Cops

Authorities in Florida say an elderly man is facing criminal charges after allegedly killing his own son during a domestic dispute on Christmas Day.

According to the New York Post, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting at about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

After receiving the 911 call, deputies responded to the residence in the 2700 block of Forbes Road in Plant City.

It was unclear from available reports who placed the call, but police reports indicate the call came from inside the home where the shooting took place.

Upon arriving on the scene, authorities reportedly found 50-year-old Benjamin Vickery with a gun shot wound to his upper body.

According to a statement from sheriff’s office spokesperson Danny Alvarez, 82-year-old Guy Richard Vickery was arrested at the scene.

The younger Vickery was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injury, Alvarez noted. The alleged victim was reportedly pronounced dead a short time after arriving at South Florida Baptist Hospital.

Guy Vickery was transported to Hillsborough County Jail and is expected to face a criminal count of using a weapon in the commission of manslaughter. Court documents did not indicate whether he had retained legal representation.

Reports did not reveal what the two men were believed to have been arguing about prior to the shooting.

As of the latest records available, the suspect remained behind bars without bail. He reportedly shot Benjamin in the shoulder during a dispute in 2000.

If convicted of the most recent charge, he could be sentenced to 30 years in prison.
