Cops find child covered in bites inside home with feces & urine under Christmas tree, dead mouse & bugs in kitchen: Police

An Indiana man called the police and accused his ex of stealing Christmas gifts, according to police, but ended up behind bars on Christmas Day after responding officers found a child inside his Evansville home, living in reported despicable conditions.

NBC 14 reports Michael Ford called Evansville authorities on Christmas Day and claimed that his former girlfriend stole Christmas presents from his residence. As officers arrived and walked into the home, they noticed numerous types of bugs scurrying around the residence, as well as dog feces and urine under a Christmas tree.

Along with trash scattered across floors, the officers noted bugs crawling on mattresses, a dead mouse in the kitchen, and dishes piled all over counters. The officers spoke to Ford’s daughter, who told them she was bitten by bugs daily and had to “brush them off her bed,” according to the outlet.

There was no edible food in the house, according to police, aside from some canned goods.

Ford reportedly said Department of Child Services already had a case pending against him and admitted he hadn’t done anything to remedy the situation.

Police arrested Ford and charged him with child neglect. The little girl was taken into the custody of DCS while two dogs in the home were placed in the care of the county’s Animal Control.
