Teen girl gives birth at home before dumping newborn son in dumpster: Cops

Authorities in Pennsylvania say a teen girl is facing criminal charges related to a newborn boy found dead in a dumpster earlier this week.

According to WPVI, a woman reported the alleged crime to police officers in North Philadelphia on Monday evening.

She reportedly told them that a friend of her daughter gave birth and put the boy in a dumpster. The woman found the newborn baby inside the receptacle and retrieved him prior to notifying authorities.

When she had the newborn, she reportedly found officers near the intersection of Judson Street and Lehigh Street at about 10:30 p.m.

At that time, officials transported the child to an area medical facility. Staff at Temple University Hospital pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival.

Investigators tracked down the suspect, an unidentified 15-year-old girl, at the home she shared with her mother.

Officers arrested the teen and escorted her to Temple University Hospital for appropriate medical observation.

As WCAU reported, the girl was admitted to the hospital to undergo “precautionary medical treatment.”

The girl allegedly gave birth at the home before dumping her son in the dumpster.

She and her mother were interviewed by authorities after they were escorted to the police department’s Special Victims Unit.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing and is being handled by the department’s homicide division.
