BREAKING: Body of baby found stuffed inside a cooler, tossed on side of road [Police]

The body of a what appeared to be a newborn baby was found alongside a Georgia road on Sunday, and authorities are seeking the public’s assistance for any information that leads to the party responsible.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that someone walking along Boy Scout Road and New Franklin Road in Troup County spotted the cooler along a wooded line on Sunday afternoon. The person who saw the cooler decided to take a look inside and after discovering the baby, called 911. Witnesses reportedly told police the cooler had been sitting in the area for around a week.

Authorities described the cooler as portable and light blue in color, with zippers on the front and sides, and watermelon slice prints all over.

“Once on scene deputies and investigators discovered what appeared to be a deceased newborn child in a portable cooler bag,” sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Stewart Smith said.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is scheduled to perform an autopsy on the infant on Tuesday, in an attempt to determine the identity and cause of death. A reward of $2,000 is currently being offered for eligible information.
