Man guns down mother-in-law he blamed for failing marriage then turns gun on himself: Cops

Authorities in Florida say a 52-year-old man is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he fatally shot his wife’s mother.

According to the New York Post, 70-year-old Linda Marx, a well-known realtor in her North Miami Beach community, was in the driveway of her home on Monday when her son-in-law Steven Kasimow allegedly opened fire, striking her in her head.

Reports indicate the suspect was allegedly upset when he walked out of the residence at about 5 p.m. and turned to fire his gun as Marx followed him out.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene a short time later and determined that the victim was dead.

Marx had celebrated her birthday the previous day with a party attended by members of her family, according to reports.

Police believe Kasimow drove away from the scene and headed north to Hollywood after the shooting. He is believed to have turned his gun on himself and fired another fatal shot.

Hours later, local officials found his vehicle and determined he had died as the apparent result of suicide.

According to police reports, the victim’s daughter had been pushing for a divorce for some time prior to the shooting.

One law enforcement source spoke to Miami Herald reporters and indicated the martial issues appeared to have provided a possible motive for the violent crime.

“The subject blamed the victim for their issues,” the individual said.

A Hollywood police source indicated Kasimow had no known ties to the area.

“He fled the scene and somehow police communicated with him by phone,” according to Christian Lata. “It pinged to Hollywood. He was just driving through the city.”
