Authorities in New York City say they are looking for information leading to the identification of a man caught on cellphone video in an apparent attack on an Uber driver and the victim’s vehicle.

According to Fox News, police believe the driver had come to a stop in traffic on Friday when the assailant made his move.

The suspect was riding a green and black bicycle through Manhattan when he approached the vehicle and bashed the sedan’s windows with a bike lock, shattering the glass, according to police reports.

As investigators reported, the driver exited his sedan following the initial attack and confronted the cyclist, who responded by hitting the victim in the head with the same lock.

Reports identified the Uber driver as a 23-year-old man. He was reportedly transported to an area hospital after he was able to escape the beating, according to WNYW.

New York police are hoping tips from the public will help lead them to the suspect, described as a black man with black hair who rode away from the scene on his bike.

He appeared to have long dreadlocks and was wearing a black backpack over a black jacket and gray hooded sweatshirt. The suspect also appeared to be wearing black pants and black shoes at the time of the incident.

Authorities are asking anyone with information that could relate to the suspect’s identity or whereabouts to contact the New York Police Department’s Crime Stoppers hotline by calling 1-800-577-TIPS.
