Pregnant woman fatally stabbed in apartment building after yelling ‘about wanting to protect her baby’: Reports

Authorities in New York City say a pregnant woman was stabbed near the entrance of her apartment building early Sunday morning.

According to the New York Post, 35-year-old Jennifer Irigoyen was discovered with multiple stab wounds at the location on Myrtle Avenue in Queens at about 1 a.m.

She was transported to Wyckoff Hospital, where she died a short time later. Reports described her as five months along in her pregnancy and her building super said she lived in the apartment by herself.

One nearby resident said she heard an argument between a man and woman, presumed to be the victim, who was “yelling something about her baby, about wanting to protect her baby.”

After the argument, witnesses reportedly saw a man running away from the apartment building. Investigators believe the man is Irigoyen’s boyfriend and were still looking for him as of the latest reports available.

Police are also looking at footage from a nearby surveillance camera as they investigate the homicide, as reported by WCBS.

Online records indicate the victim was a real estate agent for Crosstown Real Estate, selling high-end homes in the city. She was also an accomplished pianist, ballroom dancer and interior designer. Reports show Irigoyen was a fitness instructor, leading classes for Zumba and spinning.

The owner of a nearby restaurant said Irigoyen is a recent transplant to the community but had become a frequent fixture at her diner.

“She’s very friendly, very sweet woman,” Dee Cuevas said. “She just came inhere for a lemonade a couple days ago.”
