Widowed mom disappears after moving into new home with roommates

A recently widowed mother has been missing in Mississippi since late January, and her friends and family are growing increasingly concerned.

The Clarion Ledger reports that Danielle Whiteside Nipper, 51, went missing from her home in Raymond on January 24. Three weeks later, authorities appear to have few leads in the missing persons case.

According to NBC News, the Hinds County Sheriff confirmed Nipper’s disappearance in a Facebook post in late January; and Nipper’s friend Traci Hohenstein provided the news outlet with more details.

Hohenstein said that Nipper, reportedly a breast cancer survivor who recently lost her husband, had moved with her daughter to a shared house with roommates who have not been identified in news reports about Nipper’s disappearance. Hohenstein said that Nipper’s daughter Grace, a teenager, reported seeing her mother at home at around 10:30 on January 24. The daughter reportedly went back to bed until the late afternoon, and when she woke up, her mother was gone. The friend told NBC News that Grace asked the roommates if they knew where her mother went, and they said they did not.

Nipper had reportedly left her wallet, cell phone, and her car keys behind. Grace reported her mother missing the night of January 24 when she didn’t come home.

Another of Nipper’s friends, Sherry Bryant, told WJTV that Nipper had isolated herself recently.

“In the past year I don’t think anybody had really heard from her, she kind of cut everybody off,” Bryant said.

The concerned friends appear to have banded together to help search for Nipper, as authorities have revealed little about the investigation or any possible leads.

Nipper’s friend Mike Macko reportedly said in a Facebook post that a private volunteer search group and the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department worked together to search the area for signs of the missing woman.

“After an intensive ground search of several properties consisting of thick woods, creeks, and ponds, there was no evidence of Danielle,” Macko wrote in a Facebook post, according to NBC News.

Nipper was reportedly wearing a white T-shirt, maroon sweatpants, and Nike shoes when she was last seen on January 24. She is reportedly 5 feet, five inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. She is seen in some photographs with blond hair, but her hair is reportedly now dyed black, and she has brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Nipper’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office at (601) 974-2900.
