‘Mom’ dumps injured toddler on the side of the road, speeds off: Police

A Maryland mother is under arrest after she allegedly left an 18-month-child on the side of the road and drove off, while reportedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

WBAL-TV reports that Elizabeth Easton, 29, is facing multiple charges, including neglect, abuse, and reckless endangerment after she allegedly left a toddler with injuries alone on the side of a road.

On Thursday evening, a witness reportedly called Maryland State Police to report that they had discovered a small child who was left alone on Rt. 328 in Denton. Law enforcement sources told the news outlet that the motorist had seen Easton pulled over, and tossing something into a nearby field. When the witness turned their car around to help the woman, she allegedly got into her car and drove off, leaving a toddler with visible injuries behind.

State troopers reportedly located Easton not far from where the witness has spotted her, and found that she had a 1-year-old child in the car with her. While speaking with the suspect, officers noted that she appeared to be under the influence of a substance. Her charges include one count of driving under the influence.

The extent and the source of the toddler’s injuries are not know, and authorities have not said if Easton offered an explanation for abandoning the child.

The suspect is reportedly being held at the Caroline County Detention Center without bond.
