Toddler girl dies after mother leaves her unattended ‘for minutes’ in bathtub: Police

A Texas mom said she left her daughter alone for mere minutes in a bathtub and when she returned, the little girl was unresponsive.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that 3-year-old Eve Blankenfeld was taking a bath in her family’s home in Decatur last Friday when her mother left her alone to check on her other children. When the mom returned, she found Eve unconscious. The mom called 911 and began CPR on the child until first responders arrived.

Eve was taken to Wise Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, where she passed away on Tuesday.

“The mother put her child in the bathtub and then walked into another room to tend to two other kids,” Decatur Police Rex Hoskins told the outlet on Thursday. “She came back and found the child face-down in the bathtub.”

Hoskins added that the incident was a “tragic accident.” No charges have been filed in the incident but Child Protective Services continues to investigate.

Fox 4 reports that the mom told authorities that she put Eve in a bath after the little girl threw up on herself and had a fever.

According to a GoFundMe page, Eve had four brothers and a sister.
