The suspect is described as a 30-year-old man who was driving a Chrysler Pacifica southbound on Van Dyke when he struck the man crossing the street and apparently lost control of the vehicle.

Police reports indicate his car came to a stop after crashing into a nearby tree.

Emergency personnel arrived a short time later and attempted to revive the victim. He would soon be pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement officers arrested the driver on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Earlier the same day, Detroit police conducted a search for the driver of a minivan that struck a car near the intersection of Outer Drive and Chalmers Street, killing a 25-year-old woman inside.
