Authorities in Florida say a man was arrested on suspicion of engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor, whom he is believed to have impregnated.
According to WFLA, Carlos Perez Corona of Clearwater remained in jail as of the latest reports available after officers took him into custody on Sunday.
Police reports indicate a resident at the alleged 13-year-old victim’s home discovered Corona inside the house on the same day after he entered in an apparent attempt to have sex with the girl.
Investigators believe he sneaked onto the property on Saturday and Sunday to have sex with her.
He was reportedly found hiding in a closet when someone spotted him and notified authorities. Investigators subsequently confirmed that the girl had repeatedly tested positive for pregnancy, as reported by WTSP.
The alleged sex crimes spanned several months, as deputies alleged in their report. They believe Corona knew the girl and her father through mutual family connections before initiating the sexual relationship.
He is expected to face criminal charges including two counts of lewd and lascivious battery. In addition to those related counts, Corona is also reportedly being held in connection with a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement request.
