Authorities in Massachusetts say a manhunt has been called off with the arrest of a suspect accused of using a meat tenderizer during an attack on his mother.
According to Boston.com, the Walpole Police Department had announced officers were looking for an armed man initially reported to be in possession of a knife.
Reports later indicated he used a meat tenderizer in the incident Wednesday evening before fleeing the scene on foot. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored athletic outfit.
Police in Vermont reportedly located the wanted man and arrested him following a search near the scene of the crime that included air and K-9 units.
“Ian Crowley, the suspect involved in the incident on Common Street, has been captured in Vermont,” Walpole police reported. “We will follow up with more information. The searches in the area of Common Street have been concluded.”
The agency went on to call for civility in the social media discussion of this case.
“We know people have the right to express their feelings, but keep in mind some of the comments do nothing but hurt the family,” the statement concluded. “Thank you again for all your support.”
