Teen girl found safe, thousands of miles from home with 47-year-old ‘family friend’

A 15-year-old Louisiana girl reportedly “madly in love” with a man three times her age was found safe in Colorado on Friday.

ABC News news reports that Domeena Spell was found in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, in the company of 47-year-old Corey Shane Disotell. According to Port Barre Police Chief Deon Bordeaux, the teen was unharmed. Authorities took Disotell into custody.

“This was a joint effort with our agency, the FBI, US marshals, state police, St. Landry Parish sheriff’s office and many other agencies and organizations, working tirelessly and fervently,” Bordeaux said. “We are so thankful that the hard work paid off and the end result was this girl was found safe.”

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Domeanna’s sister, Jerrie Cradeur, told NBC 6 that a friend spotted Domeena walking across the street to Disotell’s car after getting off of the school bus at around 7:30 a.m. on March 28.

Disotell was a family friend, according to Cradeur. She explained that Domeanna was supposedly babysitting the man’s granddaughter, which is how the pair became close, but apparently the suspect lied about having a grandchild in an attempt to spend more time with the teen.

Cradeur added that Disotell gave the teen money every weekend so that it would appear that she was truly babysitting.

The pair also reportedly had conversations through secret letters and a hidden cellphone, and had talked about running away to Mississippi.

Several weeks ago, the girl’s parents contacted police after noticing a man captured by a neighbor’s security footage climbing into Domeanna’s bedroom window at night, after sneaking over a backyard fence. Authorities were still investigating when the pair disappeared.

“I do believe he did brainwash her. It was told to me that he is manipulative and he would have done it,” Cradeur said. “He probably has her believing that she’s safe with him and that she’s madly in love with him.”
