Authorities in South Carolina say a 32-year-old woman is facing criminal charges in connection with a vehicle collision that left a cyclist dead.

According to the Greenville News, the fatal incident occurred on Friday evening in Spartanburg.

Inman resident Nicole Blake McClain is accused of a felony count involving leaving the scene of a death in addition to driving a vehicle without insurance.

Reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol indicate she was arrested after a search for a vehicle matching the description of the one seen fleeing from the scene of the crash.

As the Greenville News previously reported, authorities were looking for a white vehicle with possible damage to its front end and windshield.

Reports indicate 46-year-old Joseph Shane Melton, also of Inman, was hit by the vehicle from behind as he traveled west on Rainbow Lake Road. He was about two miles north of Boiling Springs when the vehicle hit his bike a few minutes before 9 p.m.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger confirmed that the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene later Friday night.

Records indicate McClain was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center on Saturday. Additional details were not immediately available.
