Authorities in New York City are on the hunt for a suspect after a woman was brutally stabbed to death and another woman seriously injured in an attack that played out with a young child in the home.
According to the New York Post, police say one victim obtained a ride through Uber and instructed the driver to take her to the emergency room.
The driver reportedly soon noticed she was bleeding from obvious injuries and opted to call for emergency medical personnel.
Upon arrival, 21-year-old Angela Valle reportedly told officials that another victim was dead in an apartment on the eighth floor of the Brooklyn building. She added that a 4-year-old child was also in the unit.
Investigators say the victim had been partially decapitated and sustained multiple serious wounds across the rest of her head and body. Officials pronounced her dead at the scene.
The deceased victim was visiting the apartment, police say, and the young girl — who was found physically unharmed in a bedroom — is reportedly Valle’s daughter.
Police say Valle was transported to an area hospital where she was reportedly listed in critical but stable condition. She was being treated for severe head trauma and her daughter was evaluated by medical staff at another medical facility, according to reports.
Officers reportedly collected evidence including what they believe was the ax used to commit the violent crime. Reports indicate it had been discarded in a trash compactor near the scene. As of the latest updates available, no suspect had been identified.
