Roommates and close friends found dead of an apparent murder-suicide in bloody scene on Texas campus

Two close friends who were both students at Texas State University were found dead following an apparent murder-suicide in which the perpetrator unsuccessfully tried to kill himself with a knife before shooting himself in the head.

According to the University Star, a campus newspaper, the deceased young men have been identified as Matthew Bond Pfluger and Connor Patrick Shannon, both 24. A friend reportedly found their bodies on Sunday morning at around 9:30 at a residence they shared on Highland Drive in San Marcus.

Responding officers reportedly discovered Shannon dead of multiple gunshot wounds and Pfluger dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to the report, which is based on a statement issued by the city of San Marcos, the scene at the residence indicated that Pfluger stabbed himself with a knife before going outside and shooting himself in the head.

The young men were reportedly close friends, and social media posts from grieving loved ones indicate they were well-liked and shared common social connections.

According to the New York Post, authorities have not yet released a motive for the apparent murder-suicide.
