UPDATE: Woman inside home where young boy was shot by intruder is arrested on unrelated drug charges, cops say

Authorities in South Carolina say a woman has been arrested following a shooting that left an 8-year-old boy dead early Tuesday morning.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Mason Hanahan was pronounced dead after arriving at an area hospital after an armed intruder allegedly exchanged gunfire with a man in the residence. He died from “an apparent gunshot wound,” according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

According to WACH, a woman in the home at the time was arrested on suspicion of drug possession with intent to distribute.

Officers responding to the shooting, which reportedly injured the homeowner, took 23-year-old Linda Lyn Monette into custody.

As of the latest updates available, the shooter had not been captured or identified.

Sheriff Jay Koon said the suspect is believed to have been wearing a mask at the time of the shooting.
