Dad catches & shoots suspect breaking into home, sneaking into 13-year-old girl’s bedroom

A Texas home intruder is dead after a teen girl’s father shot the man inside the 13-year-old’s bedroom, according to police.

Houston Chronicle reports that an armed man broke into a home via a first-floor window at around 2:40 a.m. Sunday, at 13110 North Bellaire Estates Drive in Alief. The girl’s father heard the disruption and spotted the man inside the girl’s upstairs bedroom.

The pair tussled over the gun, but the father gained the upper hand and shot the suspect numerous times. A neighbor heard the commotion and ran over to the home and ushered four children out, ages 4 to 13. The neighbor said after rushing the children out, they went back to house and noticed the suspect stabbing himself inside the kitchen area.

According to Click 2 Houston, when authorities arrived at the scene, the suspect was unconscious. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. None of the children were harmed in the incident.

“This appears to be random,” Detective Blake Roberts said, indicating that there is no reason to believe the suspect was connected to the family.

“Of course, it’s still under investigation. We still have a lot of research to do on the male that broke into the house as far as his criminal history, his mental history and anything we can find in order to determine what would be the motive for this.”

The suspect’s identity is still unknown. Roberts said the man was white and appeared to be between the ages of 30 to 35.
