67-year-old man in his home unintentionally hit multiple times in drive-by shooting, cops say

Authorities in South Carolina say an elderly man was shot during a drive-by shooting outside of his home late Friday morning.

According to WSPA, the 67-year-old victim was inside of a home in the 100 block of Pennell Street in Greenville shortly after 11 a.m. when multiple shots rang out.

His home reportedly showed evidence of multiple bullets hitting its exterior walls.

The victim was not immediately identified and was reportedly transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment of what were apparently multiple gunshot wounds. As of the latest updates available, his condition had not been publicly released.

Investigators do not believe he was the being targeted by the suspected gunman, identified as 30-year-old Rickey Ezell Hill. Instead, they believe he opened fire in escalating a prior argument with someone else in the residence.a

Officials from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, and Greenville Police Department assisted in coordinating the the Greenville man’s arrest later the same day as the shooting.

Hill was reportedly booked into Spartanburg County Detention Facility, where he remained behind bars as of the latest updates available.

As WYFF reported, he is expected to face criminal charges including possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and firing a weapon into a residence.
