BREAKING: Death of baby cut from slain mother’s womb ruled a homicide

The death of a baby who survived for several weeks after he was cut from his murdered mother’s womb has been ruled a homicide.

CBS Chicago reports that Yovanny Jadiel Lopez’s death last week has been ruled a homicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. According to the report, the coroner concluded that the baby died from a lack of oxygen to the brain.

The infant had been hospitalized since April 23 when his mother Marlen Ochoa Lopez was murdered in Chicago, reportedly lured to the home of her killers who promised her baby supplies. The 19-year-old was strangled to death before the infant was cut from her womb. One of the suspects, Clarissa Figueroa, allegedly told police that she had given birth to a baby who was not breathing. It was not until mid-May that authorities discovered Ochoa Lopez’s remains and charged three suspects — Figueroa, her daughter, and her boyfriend — in connection with the murder.

As WGN-9 reports, Ochoa Lopez’s family now wants the murder suspects to be charged in connection to the baby’s death.

The baby, who has been on life support with a brain injury, died on Friday.
