2 infants and toddler among 4 dead bodies found in Texas near border

The bodies of two infants, a toddler, and a young woman were discovered on Sunday evening in Texas near the Rio Grande River.

CNN reports that Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra announced the grisly discovery in a tweet, adding that the bodies were found by border patrol agents.

Authorities have not yet publicly identified the bodies, but the sheriff reportedly said that a toddler, two infants, and a 20-year-old woman were found in the Las Paloma Wildlife Management Area which is close to the Mexican border. Because it is federal land, the FBI is leading the investigation, CNN reports.

As CBS News reports, the area where the bodies were found is known to be busy with border crossings. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reportedly said it “accounts for more than 40% of the illegal alien apprehensions.”

Authorities reportedly told KGRV that they do not suspect foul play at this time, and believe the three children and the woman may have died from dehydration.
