Officers find mom’s remains buried in 55-gallon drum; daughter and daughter’s boyfriend confess: Cops

Authorities in Arizona say a man and his girlfriend were arrested on suspicion of killing the latter’s mother, whose remains were reportedly found at their home earlier this month.

According to Yahoo, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office detectives launched an investigation after a complainant alerted the agency to an unreported murder.

Upon securing a search warrant for a residence in Kingman, deputies allegedly discovered the victim’s remains inside of a 55-gallon barrel buried “not very deep at all” in the backyard of the property.

Investigators believe the victim is 62-year-old Carrie Vanover. Reports indicate her daughter, 23-year-old Carrie Conlyn Vanover, and her boyfriend, 31-year-old Mark Anthony Baldanado Jr., “confessed to their involvement in the murder.”

The victim’s identity won’t be officially confirmed until a medical examiner’s report has concluded.

“However, with the confession by Baldanado and Vanover, [Carrie Vanover] is who we believe the victim is going to be identified as,” said sheriff’s office spokesperson Anita Mortensen.

Additional details about the crime were not immediately available and authorities say the investigation remains ongoing. As of the latest reports available, both suspects remained behind bars at the Mohave County Adult Detention Center.
