Actor known for ‘Tomb Raider’ role violently slashed by attacker while on stage at promotional event: Officials

Chinese authorities say an actor from Hong Kong was seriously injured in a knife attack this weekend.

According to Fox News, 64-year-old Simon Yam Tat-wah was attending an event in the Guangdong province on Saturday when the incident occurred.

He was reportedly on stage at the venue when the suspect rushed and stabbed him multiple times. News accounts show the actor was distributing trinkets to a crowd gathered for a building supply store’s grand opening at the time of the attack.

Simon Yam was reportedly transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment and has since returned to Hong Kong to continue recovering from injuries to his hand and abdomen.

His representatives say they are planning to explore legal options against the suspected attacker.

“The knife wound to his abdominal area caused minor damage to his internal organs which has been repaired,” Emperor Entertainment Group said in its statement. “The injuries to his right hand have also been treated. He is resting and in a stable condition.”

Local investigators have identified a 53-year-old suspect called Chen, who was reportedly arrested at the scene. Officials believe he has schizophrenia.

Western audiences recognize Simon Yam from his role in the 2003 film “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” opposite star Angelina Jolie.
