Ex-wife of prominent surgeon shares glowing Instagram post about her two successful children before killing them, herself in apparent murder suicide: Report

A budding journalist and her accomplished brother are dead after their own mother is believed to have killed them before taking her own life.

Cobb County Police told WTHR that Marsha Edwards, 58, is believed to have shot and killed her daughter, 20-year-old Erin Edwards, and her son, 24-year-old Christopher Edwards, before turning a gun on herself. All three were found dead at their Cobb County townhome, about 12 miles north of downtown Atlanta, when authorities conducted a welfare check on Wednesday evening.

Erin was a Boston University student who had recently done an internship at NBC 4 New York. Her brother Christopher was a digital content manager for the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment.

Their father and Marsha’s ex-husband is Dr. Christopher Edwards, a prominent Atlanta surgeon who sits on the board of the Atlanta Housing Society and the Morehouse School of Medicine, according to WTHR.

As the New York Post reports, Christopher and his mother had attended the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Miami this summer, and Marsha’s Instagram posts indicate that she and Erin traveled to Italy after that.

The Instagram posts show a smiling mother and daughter, along with upbeat messages about their trip. In Marsha’s final Instagram post, pubished the same day the family was found dead, she speaks highly of both her children and how much she had enjoyed the summer with them.

“I’ve had the best summer, first with [Chris] in Miami, and Erin in Italy,” she reportedly wrote. “I could not ask for better children.”

Police are still seeking a motive for the apparent murder-suicide.

Through a spokesperson, Dr. Christopher Edwards acknowledged the deaths in a statement obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Dr. Edwards, his extended family and friends are in a state of grief and shock, and privacy of the family is paramount as arrangements are being made,” the statement reads.
