A gang in Mexico City allegedly unleased two pit bulls on a man accused of raping a woman last month, and reportedly recorded the incident as a warning to others.

DonDario reports that the alleged incident occurred after an unidentified man in his 30s was captured by a Mexican gang, following accusations that he sexually assaulted a woman. Five reported gang members ripped the suspect’s clothes off, handcuffed him, then gagged his mouth with a cloth to stifle his screams.

Someone recorded the incident as the men first unleashed a white and brown pit bull terrier, who immediately began chewing away at the suspect’s genitals. As the man screamed in agony, another dog, a brown pit bull appeared but didn’t join in.

The alleged gang members supposedly released the video to show what could happen to anyone else caught raping a woman.

According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, Mexico is currently one of the most violent countries in the world for women, and more than 80% of rapes go unreported to authorities. Of the suspects that are reported, only a small percentage are actually convicted, according to the Washington Post.

While it’s unclear if the unnamed suspect survived the attack, the video indicated that the dog left the man with a large gaping wound where his genitals once were.

“Violence against women isn’t an epidemic, it’s a pandemic in Mexico,” United Nations Women’s Mexico spokesperson, Ana Güezmez, told Reuters in 2014. “We still don’t see it as a central theme of the current administration. You have to send a much stronger message.”
