Mom who left 2-year-old daughter in car with heater on for hours and sprayed her with garden hose after skin melted is arrested on suspicion of murder

The mother of a 2-year-old girl who died after she was left in a car with the heater on has been arrested.

KTLA reports that Lacey Mazzarella, 34, was arrested and taken into custody on suspicion of murder Wednesday night. Her daughter, June Love Agosto, died on September 23 after Mazzarella left her alone in a car with the heater on and the windows rolled up for at least five hours while Mazzarella drank alcohol with a friend in another car, eventually falling asleep.

According to law enforcement documents obtained by KTLA, the mother told police that when she returned to the vehicle after falling asleep, June was covered in vomit with skin on her back appearing to peel off. The mother reportedly took her out of the car and used a garden hose to try and cool the toddler, who had a temperature of 107.5 degrees when she was taken to a hospital, according to a coroner’s report obtained by the news station.

An investigator with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner told CrimeOnline on Wednesday that the toddler’s cause of death was listed as “deferred,” indicating that the coroner was awaiting further tests results before determining the toddler’s cause of death.

According to KTLA, Mazzarella is being held on $1 million bail and is due in court on Friday.
