‘Why would they keep a gun around like that?’: Tot boy, 3, shoots mother after finding dad’s gun in car: Police

A Florida mom was rushed to the hospital after her 3-year-old son shot her, according to police.

7 News Miami reports that incident happened on Tuesday afternoon, close to a Fort Lauderdale Walmart, off of West Broward Boulevard and Northwest 25th Avenue. According to authorities, the little boy was inside a grey SUV with his mother when he found a gun inside the vehicle.

Police said the gun belonged to the child’s father, who had a permit to carry it. The man reportedly placed the gun underneath the passenger seat of the vehicle before going into a nearby store. The mother and two children waited inside the car.

“Why would they keep a gun around like that? You know, you gotta keep that secure,” bystander David Francis told the outlet. “That’s why they’re trying to do these gun laws and stuff. It’s just sad.”

According to bystanders, it appeared as if the woman had been shot in the leg. Police have not confirmed where the boy shot her at or what her current condition is.

“She looked responsive,” Anthony Guadagnino, who saw the victim, said. “On the ground, she seemed responsive to the officers, and they transferred her out of here pretty quick.”

No one has been arrested at this time. Police are still investigating the incident.
