7-year-old girl dies, brother still missing after family is swept into the ocean

A 7-year-old girl is dead after being swept into the ocean off the coast of Oregon amid a high-surf warning from the National Weather Service, ABC News reports.

The girl’s father, Jeremy Stiles, was reportedly holding her and her 4-year-old brother in the Falcon Cove area in Cannon Beach on Saturday when a wave swept all three into the water. The boy is still missing.

The Coast Guard reportedly launched a search for the boy on Saturday, but the search was suspended in the evening due to lack of visibility. The status of the search and the father’s medical condition are not known at this time.
