BREAKING: 4-year-old fatally shot at Pennsylvania home; dad says boy killed during home invasion

A 4-year-old Philadelphia boy was fatally shot while at home with family members early Thursday morning, and his father has told police that the boy was killed during a home invasion.

WPVI reports that police received a 911 call at about 1 a.m. Thursday morning reporting a home invasion at a residence in North Philadelphia. When police arrived to the scene, the father was on the first floor of the residence holding a small child, and the 4-year-old boy had been shot in an upstairs bedroom.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment, but could not be saved.

According to the report, the father was at home with the 4-year-old and a younger child while their mother was at a work. Police have not yet identified the victim or any possible suspects in the reported home invasion, and are seeking surveillance footage to help with the investigation, as detectives interview the boy’s father.

“[The father] reported that it was a home invasion robbery when he called it into police radio and to the first responding officers,”Acting Philadelphia Police Commissioner Christine Coulter told WPVI.

” We don’t have any viable flash at this time regarding the person involved, but hopefully, as he is questioned at Homicide we will be able to get a clearer picture as to what exactly happened.”
