‘I’m tired of being beat’: Little boy says his head was slammed into TV screen amid constant beatings. Babysitter calls for help [Report]

An Arkansas couple is behind bars after a 9-year-old boy told police he was tired of getting beaten up and abused.

According to KAIT 8, authorities were alerted after a babysitter filed a police report on March 14, in connection with three children who lived off of County Road 607 in Greene County. The babysitter reportedly claimed she had to leave, but she didn’t want to leave the children alone “without adequate supplies.”

When deputies arrived, they noted that the children’s parents left them with the babysitter the day prior and had not returned home yet when the babysitter filed the report.

Deputies contacted a child abuse hotline after noticing that the home was not a clean, safe environment for children to be in. A deputy then contacted 26-year-old Alexis Leanna Murray, who said she was around two hours away but on her way home.

While waiting, the boy showed Deputy Kaleb Pitcher the screen of a broken television. The child said 30-year-old Cody Tyler Baker slammed his head into the television. The same child told Pitcher that his 5-year-old sister was sometimes locked in a dark closet.

The deputy “observed a closet in one of the bedrooms that had a lock on it,” the outlet reports, citing an affidavit. Pitcher took photos of the little girl, who reportedly had bruises on her arms, face, and side.

All of the children told deputies about different forms of abuse that happened to them, as well as possible drug use by the adults in the home. The 9-year-old asked the deputies to “take Cody to jail because he was tired of getting beat.”

By the time authorities left the scene that night, the suspects still had not arrived home.

On March 16, the Children’s Advocacy Center in Jonesboro conducted a forensic interview with the children. All three children reportedly “spoke of physical and mental abuse at the hand of Cody Baker.”

“All three children also stated that Alexis Murray was being physically abused by Cody Baker.”

Both Baker and Murray were arrested on March 21 and charged with three counts of felony child endangerment. They remain behind bars on a $10,000 cash-only bond each. Baker faces additional charges of second-degree domestic battery.

The children were removed from the home and placed with social services.
