5-year-old daugher of police mom and firefighter dad dies of coronavirus

A 5-year-old girl has died after contracting the coronavirus, making her the youngest COVID-19 death in the state of Michigan.

Fox 2 Detroit reports that Skylar Herbert died last week from complications of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus. Both Skylar’s parents are reportedly first responders: Her mother is a police officer, and her father is a firefighter.

Skylar’s father reportedly developed symotoms of COVID-19, and her mother told the news station that Skyler developed a persistent fever and headache last month, and had a seizure in early April outside of an emergency room where her father was being treated. She also developed meningitis, which is a rare complication of the disease. After being kept on a ventilator for two weeks, she eventually died.

“This is a hurtful feeling that I don’t want any other family to ever have to experience. It’s devastating to our family, my mother-in-law, my niece, her aunties,” Skylar’s father, Ebbie Herbert, told Fox 2 Detroit.

“We have to let the world know that this virus doesn’t care what age, what nationality you are, what political preference you have. It’s serious and it will devastate you.”
