Toddler dies after car wreck with babysitter — who didn’t report the accident

A 2-year-old child died in Michigan while in the care of a babysitter — who had reportedly gotten into a traffic accident with children in the car.

The Detroit Free Press obtained a press release from Roseville Police reporting that the unidentified child died on Sunday morning. The cause of death is still undetermined, but earlier that same day, the child and an unknown number of siblings were in a car being driven by their babysitter when an accident took place. The babysitter allegedly failed to report the accident.

Authorities have not yet determined if the unreported accident contributed to the toddler’s death.

The cause of death is pending a completed autopsy report. When the results are available, authorities will determine whether to hold the babysitter criminally liable.

“We will be seeking the highest appropriate charges, if any, in this tragic loss of a child,” Rosewell Police reportedly said in the news release.

CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is available.
