Father drowns toddler son in lake, then returns and takes his own life: Police

A Florida father is suspected of killing his toddler son before taking his own life late last week.

WESH reports that Miguel Leonardo-Hernandez, 28, and his 19-month-old son Kevin Leonardo-Cisnero were found dead in Lake George in Orlando on Thursday evening.

Investigators reportedly believe the father drowned the toddler boy in the lake and then returned a short time later, when he drowned himself.

According to the New York Post, Orlando police spokeswoman Heidi Rodriguez said that Leonardo-Hernandez and the boy’s mother had been in an ongoing dispute. Rodriguez also said that the father and son were seen on surveillance video at the lake.

It is unclear why Miguel Leonardo-Hernandez left and then came back, though Hernandez reportedly said only a short time passed between the two drowning deaths.

Investigators are treating the case as a murder-suicide.
