Mother kills five young children, flees with surviving child, and throws herself in front of a train: Police

Police in Germany are investigating the shocking deaths of five children who authorities believe died at the hands of their own mother.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, five children between the ages of 1 and 8 years old were found dead at a residence in Solingen on Wednesday.

Citing the German news outlet Bild, the New York Times reports that the children’s grandmother is said to have called police and said her daughter killed five of her children, and left with another. That child is reportedly 11 years old.

After leaving the home, the mother threw herself in front of a train, police sources said.

According to the New York Times report, police spokesman Stefan Weiand said that the 27-year-old woman was “badly injured” after the apparent suicide attempt, and that police believe she killed five of her children.

The 11-year-old child is reportedly unharmed.

Authorities have not yet released the children’s cause of death or commented on a possible motive.

CrimeOnline will provide further updates when more information is available.
