A 12-year-old Louisiana girl is in custody at a juvenile facility after police say a 6-month-old was intentionally killed.

Nola.com reports that the incident happened on Sunday at a West Bank home in St. Charles Parish. A 911 caller said that a baby inside the home was unconscious. First responders arrived and determined the infant wasn’t breathing. They attempted to revive the infant but he died at the scene.

Authorities arrested the 12-year-girl and transported her to a juvenile facility Monday, on a first-degree murder charge, ArkLaTex reports.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on Thursday that they are not divulging the names of the suspect and victim, due to issues of identifying a minor and the family.

Authorities are treating the case as a homicide, but the cause of death has not yet been revealed. Sheriff Greg Champagne said the death didn’t involve a “dangerous weapon”

“This is a horrific and tragic situation,” Champagne said. “The homicide did not involve the use of a dangerous weapon. Due to the sensitivity of both the victim and suspect being juveniles, we are unable to comment any further.”

The investigation is ongoing. Check back for updates.
